1. Community Building and participation;
YASI believes that within any community there is a wealth of knowledge, talents, and experience which, if creatively applied, can be channeled into collective action to improve the communities' livelihoods. YASI intends to pursue good community building through provision of high quality instruction and support services that help people to recognize and develop their ability, potential and organize themselves to respond to problems and needs which they share. By working closely with the communities, YASI will establish mutually beneficial relationships with both public and private entities. Community building will take place both in neighborhoods and within communities of interest, and an assessment and prioritizing of community needs shall be made for a joint redress. It will support the establishment of strong communities that actively participate in the control and use of assets to promote social justice and help improve the conditions that affect their lives. It will also enable community and public agencies to work together to improve the quality of government.
We honour working with communities where we bring every body on board including civic leaders, activists, professionals and citizens to improve certain aspects of local communities.YASI Community practioners will work alongside people in communities to help build relationships with key people and organizations as well as identifying common concerns. This will create opportunities for the community to learn new skills and act together to change the relationships between ordinary people and people in positions of power which fosters Community building based on social inclusion, justice , trust, equality and mutual respect, aspects that are key in enabling everyone to take part in issues that affect his/her life. This shall be arranged in the way that empowers individuals and groups of people with the skills they need to affect change in their own communities. A number of skills shall be created through forming large social groups working for common agenda.
YASI will use a number of approaches in building community which include; community economic enhancement, civic education, social capital formation, leadership participatory development, non violent action, ecologically / environmentally sustainable development, community-based participatory research, community participation and participatory planning. Thus, YASI programs and the communities in which they exist are shaped by their reciprocal relationships.
2. Entrepreneurship and economic empowerment;
Recognizing the centre stage role of economy in boosting growth and development, YASI embarked on Entrepreneurship which is the act of undertaking innovations, finance and business acumen in an effort to transform innovations into economic goods and or services. It involves planning, exploration of the opportunities in the market place and arranging resources required to exploit these opportunities for long term gain. It leads to emergency of new organizations or revitalizing mature organizations in response to a perceived opportunity, which earns it the position of an integral player in the business world. Enterprising is of super importance for accelerating economic growth of any country as it promotes capital formation and creates wealth in the country thereby reducing unemployment and poverty levels, and indeed a pathway to prosperity.
YASI exists to support and build young people with entrepreneurial skills and promotion of other forms of entrepreneurial mind-set that result into entrepreneurial initiatives such as social entrepreneurship, knowledge entrepreneurship and political entrepreneurship among others. It is largely responsible for the dynamism of industries and long-run economic growth which comes along with increased job opportunities for young people.
Economic empowerment is on YASI agenda to help young people to raise incomes and standards of living to redress the inequalities within the Ugandan society where the majority youth are poor. This program includes skills development and talent promotion, management and socio-economic development. It is a comprehensive program that shall include; Apprenticeship, virtue enterprise for acquisition of the required experience and mobilization of financial and logistical support for business starters.
3. Human Rights, Governane and Peace
Considering good governance as a very important aspect in attainment of the Millennium Development Goals, and the fact that Uganda is in the transition as far as critical governance issues are concerned, YASI will mobilize stakeholders including young people to actively participate in the democratization processes of Uganda at all governance levels as well as providing civic competence to local government units on the modern participatory and consultative leadership model that allows the people to actively take part in issues that affect their lives, areas and country as a whole including protection, justice administering, transparency and accountability.
Human rights are inherent entitlements which one is born with and universal in nature acceptable across the globe. However, these rights may exist as natural or legal rights at all governance levels i.e. At national and international levels. It is thus incumbent on YASI to observe the UN’s Universal declaration of Human Rights (Paris 1948), which all modern societies had to adopt with Uganda not an exception. The International human rights stipulate obligations of Governments to act in ways or to refrain from certain acts, in order to protect and promote human rights and fundamental freedoms of individuals or groups. The Vienna World Conference on Human Rights (1993) for instance, noted that it is the duty of States to promote and protect all human rights and fundamental freedoms, regardless of their political, economic and cultural systems.
4. Capacity building and enhancement;
Appreciating that capacity building significantly impacts on organization’s contribution to development , YASI chooses to work upon her internal development and activities that enhance and strengthen the knowledge, skills, competencies, abilities, behaviour of the organization human resources, as well as providing the necessary facilities, conditions and improving structures and processes required for staff to engage in the process of learning and adapting to change in the interest of realizing the goals in the measurable and sustainable ways. Adequate capacity building will place YASI in the suitable position to effectively form sound policies, get effective management and financial handling skills, to establish a more interactive public administration which is responsive and accountable to people ; as well as effective implementation of the above named programs , specific projects and managing the general organizational dynamics.
